Breezy winter skills and no queues!

Winter skills shenanigans for the last couple of days. When Cairngorm windspeeds became apocalyptic, instead of just tortuous, we headed over into Glen Feshie.

We spent the day in Glen Feshie sliding and tumbling as we practised ice axe arrest. Then rounded off with a short walk to Carn Ban Beag and some excellent emergency snow shelter digging in spring snow.

Today started beautiful and sunny, with a cruisy walk up through the Cairngorm Mountain ski area, practicing step kicking and cutting. Then up Fiacaill Ridge, onto the plateau, where we got our butts kicked in near zero vis, strong winds and heavy snow showers. Nevertheless, we bagged Stob Coire an Sneachda and got in some good nav practice, with some broken goggles to spice up the walk.

Finished off with some snowpack analysis, where we found some pretty easy shears in the new windslab, followed by a lovely walk out of Sneachda past ptarmigan and mountain hares. Beats being stuck in a lift queue 🙂
