Capercaillie on the Loose in Carrbridge! 1

How’s this for Spring madness? A female capercaillie wandering around the centre of Carrbridge village! We met a friend the other day who had taken some pictures of this caper, which apparently perched above the entrance to one of the hotels and then proceeded to do a tour of the main road.

It’s usually the hefty, black and sometimes aggressive males that grab the headlines. But especially at this time of year – the peak of the Capercaillie display season, the beautifully camouflaged hens seem to become a bit less timid. Apparently, this bird was eventually caught and relocated back to the local pine forest by a ghillie friend of mine.
