They say ‘the early bird catches the worm’. Well, Capercaillie and Black grouse go dancing instead!

April-May only

During April and May, join me for an early morning short tour by car and/or on foot to explore the scots pine forests and heather moorlands which make this area so famous. We’ll be hoping for a glimpse of the elusive capercaillie – one of the biggest grouse in the world and one of the rarest birds in Britain. But we will also be in prime habitat for a variety of other forest species too, including lekking black grouse.

If booked with a full day trip, this product attracts a £20 discount. State code BOFD at checkout. For example, we could try to see all four of Britain’s star grouse in a day: Capercaillie, Black grouse, Ptarmigan and Red grouse! (See ‘Cairngorms Plateau’ below).

Thanks so much for sending us the wonderful photo of our Capercaillie sighting – we can see the detail of its plumage really clearly and it’s little eye focussed on us! We so enjoyed the enormous benefit of your expertise and we’re so happy with all we were able to see in such a short time.

  2. J. Mathers

Thanks for the guide, really enjoyed it and glad we got great views of those Crossbills! Thanks again for an enjoyable morning. Will visit the Cairngorms again for sure!
