What’s the difference between ‘backcountry’ and ‘sidecountry’?

Backcountry skiing involves off-piste descents that are technically ‘out-of-bounds’, ie: without any form of uplift or ski patrol. Sidecountry, on the other hand, involves in-bounds off-piste descents which start and finish at an uplift. Being in-bounds, they ARE normally covered by ski patrol.
