Overview
If you like stargazing, then come and enjoy a special night on this guided experience in the Highlands of Scotland! With large areas of wild uplands and coast the Highlands offers many opportunities to enjoy the night sky with little or no light pollution.
Arc Guiding is based in the northern Cairngorms National Park, which offers plenty of quiet open air viewing spots. In addition, its ‘DarkSky’ locations make this one of the best places in Scotland for memorable guided stargazing experiences.
- Recommended for dark, clear nights in autumn, winter and early spring
- Location dependant on weather and time of year (often Aviemore – Grantown area)
- Option to head north to the Moray Firth, depending on views
This short tour packs in plenty of opportunities to enjoy the night-time wonders around us. We use a high quality 80mm spotting scope rather than a true astro scope. We find this provides perfectly good images of the nearer/larger planets. And if you want more of a walk, we can include that too.
We hope to get good views of the brighter stars, moon and perhaps Jupiter and Saturn. Depending on the time of year, we may also witness superb sunsets and the famous ‘northern lights’ (aurora borealis)!
