Help page with pre-trip advice and links for paddlers, that is, kayakers and canoeists.
Whether you are booked onto one of our Scottish guided canoe/kayak trips, or are planning your own journey, it’s worth following a general pretrip checklist so you don’t forget the basics. Next, you will need a few items of gear and spare clothing. There is usually plenty of space available in these boats. Bring a complete change of clothing and a towel – just in case! For paddling, wear warm and waterproof clothing layers you can adjust depending on the conditions. Don’t forget UV protection, food and any personal medication, plus footwear you don’t mind getting wet (or wellies). Also check you have enough drink to stay hydrated. Pack carefully – there will be items you need to stay dry and also items you need to be able to reach without having to land your boat. Finally, if you are wearing shorts and t shirt, watch out for tick bites when launching, landing, or going to the toilet. Many of these topics are covered in more detail in the blog.
