Help page with pre-trip advice and links for backcountry ski tourers, splitboarders and ski touring students.
Whether you are booked onto one of our Scottish ski touring courses, or are planning your own journey, it’s worth following a general pretrip checklist, so you don’t forget the basics. Next, you will need warm and waterproof clothing layers plus food and any personal items. Take just enough drink to stay hydrated. In addition, you need to have ski touring boots, skis, skins and poles, plus avalanche safety kit. In clear weather especially, remember UV protection. Finally, you might also need basic mountaineering gear such as boot crampons and an ice axe. Many of these topics are covered in more detail in the blog.
