Whether you are booked onto one of our Cairngorms winter skills courses, or are planning your own journey, it’s worth following a general pretrip checklist so you don’t forget the basics. Next, you will need the right gear and clothing to be safe and comfortable. This means warm, waterproof layers, plus mountaineering helmet, goggles, several pairs of gloves and winter mountaineering boots. Gaiters are also worthwhile and UV protection is important, especially on clear days. Also, don’t forget your ice axe, crampons, food, drink and lunch. Many of these topics are covered in more detail in the blog.
